Best Penny Stocks to Buy Today

The penny stocks that actually cleared a liquidity screen today, the criteria used to find them, and the dilution traps that separate a tradeable low-priced share from a value destroyer. Everything here is a watchlist, not a recommendation.

What counts as a penny stock

Most screens treat any share trading under $5 as a penny stock, even though the term originally described OTC names trading for literal pennies. The stricter filter — shares under $1 with the highest trading volume of the day — is the one that matters for a NIVF-style trade, because a low price on a tiny float is where the fastest moves and the worst slippage both live.

Most active penny stocks by dollar volume

Dollar volume — shares traded multiplied by price — is the cleanest first filter, because it proves the name can be entered and exited in size. On the September 30 close the leaders were Generation Essentials Group, Tenon Medical and Connect Biopharma Holdings, each trading between roughly $182M and $301M of dollar volume.

Low-priced retail favourites worth tracking

A second cluster of names trades on Nasdaq or NYSE, often above the $5 line, and still behaves like a penny stock: fast, retail-driven, and catalyst-dependent. These are the tickers that dominate beginner watchlists because commission-free brokers put them in front of millions of accounts.

Criteria

The seven filters behind this list

  1. 01Price under $5, ideally under $1 if you are specifically looking for NIVF-style upside potential.
  2. 02Dollar volume above roughly $50M, so the exit is as real as the entry.
  3. 03Listed on Nasdaq or NYSE rather than OTC, for better disclosure and tighter spreads.
  4. 04A dated, named catalyst inside the next quarter: earnings, an FDA decision, a contract, an M&A window.
  5. 05A share count that is not expanding every month — check the last two capital raises before you commit.
  6. 06Insider and institutional ownership that is visible and stable, not a 58% insider block with 1% institutions.
  7. 07A position size that is boring if it goes to zero, because a meaningful share of penny stocks do.
